Being the oldest brand of the Hyatt Group introduced in 1980, the Hyatt Regency brand has its focus on luxury resort styled properties which mainly feature recreational facilities such as spas. Whereas other brands like Hyatt Place emphasis their services more on business travellers.

In 2005 the Hyatt Group acquired Summerfield Suites a so called extended stay chain. Summerfield Suites features 20 different location in the United States alone. In April of 2007 the Hyatt Group also launched a new brand, the Andaz. The first opening hotel under that brand was in London. The Great Eastern Hotel, on Liverpool Street and additional luxury hotels are planned to be operational soon in New York and Austin, Texas in the United States.
